LHOLZ is an independent design and woodturning studio based in Potsdam.
Working between function and sculpture, the practice explores contemporary objects in wood through clear forms, visual lightness and distinct character. Objects that sit quietly in a space — yet never disappear within it.
Each piece begins with a search for form — slowly shaped on the lathe, with attention and intention.
The Squeezer
A simple gesture, turned
into an object of lasting presence.
Designed to extract juice.
Made to hold attention.
When function disappears, form remains.
I see the Squeezer as both an everyday tool & a sculpture — designed to perform its function without being defined by it.
Made for a ritual. Designed for the room.
The Squeezer belongs where it is used — on the table, within reach, becoming part of the interior.
Lazybøl.
Designed to lean, shift, and find its own balance.
An exploration of lightness, movement, and form.
A bowl that refuses to do its job.
The Lazy Bøl would rather lie down. By turning away from its original function, it becomes something more — a form to observe, contemplate and enjoy.
No longer just a bowl, but an object in its own right.
No base. No fixed position.
A bowl is supposed to stand still. This one refuses.
Its instability is not a flaw. It is the design.
Everything is a question of balance.
Too much. Not enough. Too fast. Too slow. We spend our lives adjusting, searching for a point that never seems to remain still.
The Lazy Bøl lives in that same fragile state. It can find its balance, lose it, or simply give in and lie down.
Perhaps balance also means knowing when to rest.
The first one was called "Bøl Danseuse"
I saw a ballerina in its silhouette — the anchored supporting leg, the shifted centre of gravity, the body caught in the precision of a pirouette.
What appears effortless is held together by balance, tension and control.
A moment of grace, held in wood.

One Object. Three skateboard decks.
Cut into slices, matched by colour, and shaped by hand on the lathe.
The material already comes with a story.
Scratched, ridden and full of colour, each deck carries the energy of its first life. As a skateboarder myself, working with this material feels completely natural.
Collecting old decks, playing with their intrinsic colours, combining them, then shaping everything on the lathe — that’s everything I like about the process.
The lathe and I simply give the material a new form and purpose.

LHOLZ is a woodturning studio based in the heart of Potsdam,
founded by French designer and woodturner Mendel Andreys.
Working primarily with solid wood,
the studio creates objects at the intersection of sculpture and utility.
Function is often the starting point, but never the limit —
creating objects intended to transcend their original purpose.
Objects made to be used, contemplated and lived with.
